Pluralistic practice explainedPluralistic practice puts the client at the centre of a collaborative and engaging relationship, viewing the client as resourceful and full of agency, very much an active partner in the process of change.
Pluralistic practice = a collaborative, personalised and flexible approachPluralistic practitioners work collaboratively with their clients to understand their view of their situation and help clients identify goals they want to aim for. They jointly consider ways to move forward and agree on tasks that will help achieve those goals, drawing from many methods and approaches to suit client needs and preferences. Identifying client strengths and and harnessing their personal resources is an important part of the process. Progress is reviewed regularly in an open, honest and productive partnership of equals.

Pluralistic practitioners are informed by a hopeful, postmodern, constructivist view of the world, believing that there is no one fixed or absolute truth; they embrace a 'both/and' philosophy (rather than 'either/or') - the idea that there is more than one way to look at things, more than one way to solve a problem.
Who we are |
We are a group of counsellors, therapists, academics and other health and wellbeing practitioners with an interest in a pluralistic approach to working with clients. We offer a supportive network for the sharing of ideas and resources, with regular meetings, a forum, occasional CPD events and updates on pluralistic research. We aim to to collaborate and support each other as we explore ways to further understandings and approaches in pluralistic practice.Do join us!

Our history |
The Pluralistic Practice Network (PPN) was set up in October 2015, with the support of Professor John McLeod and the counselling department of University of Abertay, Dundee (namely Julia McLeod, Kate Smith and Mhairi Thurston) - for which, huge thanks! It has very quickly become a collaborative venture, both in cyber space and solid space.

Keeping it all going |
The website, forum and Facebook page are currently managed by Kat and Katie; the network meetings were put together through 2016 by Bud, Jillian, Kat, Kath and Katie, joined for 2017 by Bex, Gary, Claire and Laura; and the energy and enthusiasm that fuels the network is all down to you, the members. Thank you!
